Hello all!
So a few weeks ago I just made the biggest move in my life! I moved from sunny Florida to (still sunny) California! I would like to officially say that I’m a west coast mermaid. For starters I came from a small town and transitioning to the metropolis that is LA has been extremely exciting. In two weeks time I have learned quite a bit about the City of Angels. Things that I would love to share with you all incase you’re thinking about moving to the BEST coast. đ
1. Making a left turn is not for the faint of heart
I have noticed that they make the yellow lights here last a lot longer compared to back home. It’s because they need to! The traffic is worse than I imagined. I cannot tell you how many times I have ran a red light just to make my left turn. Say goodbye to your little green arrows folks, those don’t exist here in LA.
2. Parking…Â
The rules of parking here are very interesting. One side of the street will say no parking from 12-3pm due to street cleaning while the other side is Friday but at a completely different time. I’ll be lucky enough to park on my street. Then you have signs like this in the photo here where there are two signs… So which one do you follow? On the bright side I would like to pat myself on the back for mastering parallel parking.
3. There is always something to do
Whether you like to hike, workout, shop, or the arts there is literally something to do all the time! This city essentially has everything in one spot. Not to mention the beach is less than an hour away (well depending on traffic that is).
4. Speaking of traffic…Â
I thought Miami’s traffic was bad but holy fish this place is a whole other beast! I’m in East Hollywood which is a pretty central location to everything. Something that could be five miles away from me could still take me about a solid 20-25 minutes to get there depending on the day. I never want to hear anyone complain about traffic unless they have experienced it here.lol
5. Calling all Vegetarians!Â
If you don’t eat meat like myself then Los Angeles is your spot! I mean let’s be real, the restaurants here are pretty great in regards to providing options for us meatless peeps. I swear I don’t know if it’s just me but I think the Acai bowls taste amazing here compared to back home! I went to this place called Backyard Bowls and it’s the perfect spot to get your bowl.
6. When in doubt… Get a Hollywood Pie
Whenever you get that crazy pizza craving check out Hollywood Pies! Their deep dish pizza is incredible. Don’t judge, but I ate all of it in one sitting. Depending where you are it can be a little bit of a drive but call your order in first and then your precious pie will be waiting for you. Needless to say Hollywood Pies is bae.
7. Apartment huntingÂ
This is the biggest feat of them all. Finding an apartment that’s available is insanely difficult. At least it was for me being across the country at the time. As soon as you get a hit I recommend putting that deposit down ASAP. You definitely have to get them while they’re hot.
